Why teaching critical thinking fails

Why freethinkers need to focus on moral fortitude if we are to actually encourage people to think more critically.

I read a great essay by Edward Clint a while back (link at the end of this post). It was about why teaching critical thinking fails. Edward points out that in order to do the hard work, we have to actually care what is true. And in order to care, we have to be encouraged to be moral. And not just moral. But courageously so. If we are to challenge the status quo, we have to be morally fearless. By teaching kids to be morally fearless, we are actually teaching them to think for themselves and to not be defined by the status quo. How do you teach your child moral courage?
