The cost of being callous

As more research is done on Humanistic Business Management practices, we are finding out more and more about the value of compassion.

According to a study at Stanford, callousness comes at a cost. If we suppress our compassion in order to avoid some cost associated with feeling compassion, we suppress our morality and sense of identity. One of two things has to give. Either we have to loosen our moral standards, and/or we have to admit that we aren’t as moral as we should be. Usually both. Either way, when we suppress our compassion our sense of self and sense of identity suffers. Given that who you think you are is so central to how you live your life and whether you hold yourself in high esteem or not, is sacrificing compassion really worth it?
