Self-Control is a Virtue

One of the major differences between religion and Humanism.
While most religions preach the concept of personal responsibility, based on how their most ardent supporters act, you would think they don’t truly understand the concept.
I say this because it seems that not only do most religions have a huge list of prohibited or taboo behaviors, they also seem to REALLY like to legislate those prohibitions.
Like the blue laws that forbid the sale of alcohol.
To a Humanist, this is the wrong approach because it is focused outward on eliminating temptation instead of encouraging personal responsibility. Here is why I think the Humanist approach is better.
A Humanist feels that if you can’t control yourself and you succumb to temptation, the solution isn’t to remove temptation; the solution is to work on your self-control!
You simply don’t need to remove temptation when you have self-control.
