5 key principles: A Humanist approach on how to be happy
It is tied to our concept of social responsibility.
The way a Humanist pursues happiness is quite serious.
1) We don’t confuse happiness and pleasure.
2) We don’t pursue happiness hedonistically.
3) We know that happiness comes from gaining control over our lives
4) We gain control and therefore freedom by choosing to be responsible.
5) Responsibility contributes to happiness only when it is in the service of compassion
The Humanist conception how to be happy is actually rather deep.
A Humanist pursues happiness by striving to be the best most ethical person we can be and by making it our responsibility to make the world a better place.
There is nothing fluffy or pie in the sky about it.
How do you approach the serious business of being happy?
