This week people are celebrating Hannukah, Christmas, Solstice, Saturnalia, Festivus, nothing, Divali, Kwaanza, Humanlight and more. I’ve always been of the opinion that if there is a party and there is food involved, I want in.

God and Golf

I was wondering the other day if God doesn’t like golfers. I say this because for all the times I’ve committed blasphemy, I’ve never been struck by lightening. People who golf however, do, on occasion, get struck.

Thwarting Satan

I recently got an email from a nice old man who was concerned for my soul. He wanted to warn me about Satan. What was unusual about the email is that in his very first sentence he managed to accurately describe Humanism. He said, “It sounds like your interests are with human concerns, not religion.” Yup, that pretty much sums it up. Why do I think being interested in human concerns is better? Well, from a practical standpoint it means that instead of cowering from Satan like this guy is, I’m busy trying to make the world a better place.

Interconnectedness

Today’s lesson is that you don’t need spirituality to feel connected to the universe. An honest assessment of reality is enough to do the trick.
